#Teatime with Robecca and Kate Hill, author of Warrior Priest.

A warm welcome to Kate. It is so nice having you here for tea as we chat about your book.

  • What type of scenes do you enjoy writing the most?

I love to write emotional scenes between the characters, even if it’s not necessarily between the main characters, but something like a hero or heroine bonding or disagreeing with a mentor or an intense scene between the protagonist and antagonist. In my science fiction romance, Warrior Priest, there’s a scene in which the hero, Jade, attempts to help a suicidal man. It was one of the hardest to write, but also one of my favorites.

  • What drew you to writing romance?

I’ve always loved reading romance, but years back I wasn’t finding romances with characters, in particular female characters, that I could connect with. I wanted to write the stories I wanted to read.

  • Let’s talk about sex. How steamy are your books?

I enjoy reading and writing steamy books, but not all the time. My main reason for going indie as a writer is that I have stories I want to tell that don’t always include lots of sex scenes, or any at times. Sex scenes are great when they fit the story and the characters, but sex doesn’t have to be the main focus of all stories all the time.

  • What projects are you working on now?

Currently, I’m working on a new paranormal romance and also re-editing a long list of books that had been previously published as erotic romance. I’m adding some new scenes and removing other scenes that didn’t fit with my original ideas for the stories. The books will still have sex scenes, but they will be sensual to steamy rather than erotic. In my opinion, the sex scenes will fit better with the characters and storylines. Within the next few months I plan to re-release the Darkness Therein, the second book in my Ancient Blood series.

Warrior Priest

What happens when a warrior priest from a strict religion meets a free-spirited priestess from a new age commune?

Jade and Selena are as different as two people can be, but to facilitate an alliance between their worlds, they engage in a cultural exchange. With their galaxy in danger from a planet that wants to conquer or destroy all others, they realize the importance of their assignment, but it is difficult for a warrior priest and a nonviolent priestess to understand each other.

Selena is both attracted and appalled by his old school masculinity, and Jade is tempted to break his vow of celibacy until marriage due to his powerful desire for her. Will this unlikely pair not only find common ground, but unconditional love?

Excerpt:

Deciding to change the subject, Selena glanced toward the creek. “Do you like to swim?”

“Not right now. Selena, come on. It’s getting late.”

“Then go to bed if you want to.” She slipped off her sandals and unwrapped her robe.

“You’ve got to be kidding me.” Jade turned his head, visibly clenching his teeth and curling his hands into fists at his sides. “What’s the point of this, Selena?”

“It’s called going for a swim. Like most normal people do in hot, humid weather.”

She pulled off her loose pants and headed toward the creek, wearing her strapless bra and under shorts.

“Five minutes, and then we’re going.”

“Sir, yes, sir!” She marched into the water. It was warmer than she’d hoped, but still pleasant.

“Aren’t you allowed to swim?” she called from the creek.

“Yes, we’re allowed to swim. We’re trained to swim, but not with half-naked women.
